I like the symbols 1 and 4.
If the the bird in the 1st symbol could be modified a bit, with the wings turning inside towards its body - that would give an impression of protecting the family, but without changing the basic shape of 'V' which should look prominent (it might not look as good as this one may be, but it is worth a try)
